Nov 13, 2019. #1. Hello. I have an issue with my disco 4. I can get the engine to start but the gear selector will not turn from P. It rises up but will not turn. Brake pedal pushed and all brakes lights working. I have tried a hard reset (disconnecting negative battery lead for 20mins) and still the gear selector is locked in P.

Jan 28, 2012. #3. squirt a decent amount of lubrication on the steering column UJs in the engine compartment first though. ideally jack the front wheels off, get a mate in the car and really work the lube into the UJs lock to lock. you should see lots of rusty mess coming out of them.
Land Rover says that in 2013 the crankshaft issue was sorted out, but Land Rover forums suggest otherwise. The Discovery 4 is a heavy car, so keep in mind it will wear it's suspension and brakes faster than you're used to. Don't cheap out, you'll need every bit of handling and stopping power you can get to keep the Discovery under control.

The Discovery 4 was in many ways an update to the troubled Discovery 3 to sort out all it's problems. Early Discovery 4's looked more like a Discovery 3.5 really. The Discovery 4 was available with either the 2.7 TDV6, the 3.0 TDV6 and the 3.0 SDV6.

Rear heated seats packed up after 12 months. Boot latch packed up after 6 months. But it get worse. Car engine disintegrated @ 111000 miles - injector on 6th cylinder over fuelling and blew hole in piston. Full dealer history from new up until I bought it; full independent history from then on, 6mthly oil change, annual oil and filter. GqooSg6.
